Medics needed for international sustainable development programmes.  If you want to build up expedition medic experience, have at least two years post registration experience and want to drive change in poor rural communities and vulnerable environments then a Raleigh International programme is for you!

About the organisation:

Raleigh is a sustainable development charity. We harness the passion and energy of volunteers to effect positive change in sustainable development. Our programmes focus on providing access to safe water and sanitation, protecting vulnerable environments and building resilient communities.

Our work is delivered through young people (aged 17 – 25) and volunteer leaders (aged 23+) and is a collaboration between local communities, partners and volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds, nationalities and life stages.

About the opportunity:

Raleigh is currently recruiting medics to support two of our programmes; expeditions and International Citizen Service, which is funded by the UK government (DFID). We need nurses, doctors and paramedics for placements departing in June and September 2014 for 8 or 13 weeks.

As a medic, your primary role on expedition would be to ensure the health and safety of volunteers. This could involve dealing with emergencies, providing medical care in remote settings and delivering basic medical training to other volunteers. In addition you will have the chance to lead, inspire and motivate a group of young people on our remote and challenging project sites.

In order to join a Raleigh programme all volunteers are required to raise funds, but we are able to offer generous bursaries to Medics.

How to get involved:

To find out more please visit Raleigh’s website. If you wish to apply you should complete the online application form. Once completed you will be invited to attend an assessment weekend if you are based in the UK, or a telephone interview if you live abroad.

For further information please contact us on We are keen to hear from Expedition Medicine users so please mention Expedition Medicine when you apply.

Raleigh regularly hosts open events around the UK. If you’d like to come along to find out more about Raleigh International’s expeditions reserve a place.
